How do I retrain my dogs to sleep on the floor?

I’ve have two dogs. One for a year and other for three months. They have always slept with me, but I’m getting married in a few months and my future husband is against the furry company.
What is the best way to train my dogs to sleep on the floor. Right now, they sleep there whenever they want and go back and forth between the bed and floor anyway.

Answer: Okay, it is gonna be a little hard and their feelings will get hurt if this is not done properly. Dogs are very attached to us and they feel like that is their place, beside you, and even though they may love your partner, it isn’t the same thing, they don’t like to share that. You’ll need tough love for this, it will take consistency and reassurance by you and your partner at all times. You must do the same things to break the behavior so they see that you are one now and deserve equal respect. I would start out with putting a properly sized bed on the floor and maybe a sheet that you have slept on a couple of times, so that it will have your comforting scent. If they are snugglers, get them a stuffed animal, again, according to their size. If they wake you up getting in the bed, calmly put them back in their bed and tell them (however you choose to communicate with your dog) that that is no longer their bed, they have their own and it is so great! Always use it as a good thing and never for a time out or make them feel it is punishment. If you are consistent with this there is no reason they can’t sleep in the same room with you if that is what you wish. Good luck and be loving, firm and consistent and always PRAISE for good behavior and learning a social skill.

How can I train my dog to stay off my bed?

I want my dog to sleep in his own bed but when I am not lying on my bed my dog will jump up on my bed. I take his collar and escort him off, I will repeat this about 10 times but he still jumps back on the bed. Any advice you have would be most appreciated.

Answer: Buy yourself a child safety gate/stair-gate. Put your dogs bed outside your bedroom door when you go to bed and therefor your dog can still see you but cannot climb on your bed. You might end up with 2-3 restless nights but this solution will work so longs as you’re persistent and do not give in to his whining! We learnt our lesson the hard and expensive way but a dog will smell your scent on your bed and your sofa as this is where you spend most of your time and in our case our dog decided to dig its way through our mattress when we left him home alone. It is a natural thing for a dog to do!

How do you train a dog to get off the bed?

We have a 60 lb Lab that loves to sleep on our bed. Of course she takes up half of it! How can we get her to stay on the floor and sleep? We tried a dog bed with a treat reward, but she always ends back up into the bed! Plus she eventually chewed up the dog bed!!!!

Answer: Is this something new that you’ve just decided to do? Keep the dog off the bed? If in the past she’s been allowed to sleep with you, then she will always feel like she belongs on the bed. It’s hard to train pets. Use the command “Off” instead of “No” whenever she jumps on the bed. Obviously rewards didn’t help the first time, but keep it up, she’ll get the hang of it. It’ll take time tho. Good Luck!

How can I train my dog to sleep in a dog bed?

My dog has slept in the same bed as me all his life. But lately hes been getting on my nerves lol. And sometimes keeps me awake. I wanna train him to sleep in a bed next to mine. But every time i put him there he gets up right away and gets back in my bed! How can I train him to sleep on it? Is it mean to do it after hes slept in a bed all his life?

Answer: I believe this is a case of “…old dog new trick”  but it is possible, you just have to be willing to deal with it.
Dogs respond to aggressiveness (doesn’t necessarily have to be violent). if you want him to get off your bed then scold him. then direct him to the bed you want him to sleep in. It would also help if you put his bed between your bed and the entrance to the room. dogs like to sleep between you and the entrance to the room to “protect” you. even if their not an aggressive dog they still have the instinct.
