Pigeon Birds House Design

What is the best design for a birdhouse for one pigeon that has decided to live on my house roof?

Answer: Pigeons do not nest in bird houses. They nest in bowls or boxes (well, not in the wild of course but as far as what people can provide them), sort of like canaries nest in bowls. You can place a shallow box or bowl up there to provide the nest with some support. It only needs to be a few inches deep, and no bigger than a square foot around is needed.

Coconut Bird House and Bird Hygiene Problem

I have put a Coconut Birdhouse inside my 3 month old lovebird cage. Is it for nesting? Well i believe she couldn’t lay any eggs as she is too young and she doesn’t have a mate. Will she get in to sleep or whatever? She’s unmatured. And now about hygiene. I’ve put a Bird Bath inside my bird cage. It’s just like a mini bath tub with just plain water inside. She will get in and bath herself eventually if she wanted too. But i have to change the water daily right? It’s in her cage for everyday. And i wanted to bath her with a bird shampoo which i have bought. That i will bath her myself. Should i bath her Once a week or once a month with the Shampooed bird bath as she already have a bird bath with plain water (no shampoo) inside her cage everyday. Oh ya and her shampoo is medicated.

Answer: Usually breeders use nest boxes for breeding, so it’s hard to tell if that coconut birdhouse was really meant for breeding or just sleeping in.
It’s fine to use it, but some birds (even if they don’t have a mate) can get their hormones going with just a nestbox placed in the cage and start laying eggs. Because she is young, you don’t want her laying any eggs because she could eggbind.
So if she ever shows any signs of getting hormonal, take out the birdhouse.

I need a cage under $500 for this kind of bird?

For a severe mini macaw (18-20″ in length). The absolutely minimum cage size for them is 30″ x 30″ x 60″ or an equal space

Answer: I saw a really nice one in Petco that was about 4 feet tall for less than $400. I wanted it for my cockatiels ut have no place for it and they already have two cages. And it was larger than necessary. I think I could have housed 4 or 5 happily in there.

Is this bird cage big enough for a Indian Ring neck?

Im planning on buying an Indian Ring neck but i need the right cage
those are the dimension
Dimensions: 41″L X 18″W X 18″H
Dimensions: 57″L X 18″W X 18″H
If you want a picture here you go: http://www.petco.com/product/104228/Super-Pet-EZ-Care-Bow-Front-Mini-Playtop-Bird-Cage.aspx
BTW if you can, how big does an average indian ring neck grow
Thanks soooo much in advance

Answer: A bird in a cage should be able to flap his/her wings without hitting a toy or bars, bars preferbally should be horizontall on as many sides as possible for climbing, Door openings big enough to feed and not escape or if wanting out consider a cage with a ramp door or a swinging door. the kings cages are good cages and are sturdy, powdercoated and easy to clean. The cage you noted as said by other person is too small.

What can cockatiels eat?

I have a cockatiel and I would like to feed it some food that we eat. What are some safe food I can feed my cockatiel? Also what are some food that I shouldn’t feed it? Thank You!

Answer: You can feed your cockatiel grapes, apples, apricots, cherries, strawberries, bananas, peaches, papaya, watermelon, cantaloupe, mango, cranberries, oranges (only once or twice a week because too much citrus can cause diarrhea and other health problems), plums, pears, pineapple.
Broccoli, peas, corn, carrots, kale, zucchini, parsley, spinach, celery, sweet potatoes, beets, yams, cucumbers, romaine lettuce, turnip greens, sweet peppers, fresh sprouts, endive, and yellow squash.
Make sure all food is fresh. Also, only leave meats and eggs in your cockatiel’s cage for about 30 minutes because they can spoil quickly.
You can also feed your cockatiel cooked oatmeal, cooked cereal, hard-boiled or scrambled eggs, cooked rice, cooked pasta, cooked turkey, and cooked chicken, and yogurt. Wash all raw foods and serve cooked food at room temperature.
Avoid feeding your cockatiel rhubarb, avocado, chocolate, caffiene, raw potatoes, and the pits and seeds of any fruits. Also, don’t feed your cockatiel apple cores. All are toxic to cockatiels.

What can I feed my cockatiel?

I want my bird to eat something else because it always eat pellets and seeds.I want to feed it something healthy/yummy/and that are safe for my cockatiel.

Answer: Well, here is a list of things you can feed him that are safe, and are human foods: Apples, Pears, peaches, bananas, berries, kiwi, pomegranate, grapes, raisins, carrots, sweet potatoes, beets, broccoli, legumes, frozen mixed vegetables, kale, greens (not lettuce), greenpeppers, zucchini and other squash, asparagus, ripe tomatoes, dried hot peppers, sprouts-bean or alfalfa,
spinach, and brussels sprouts.
Bean sprouts; use red, green, and yellow Bell Peppers for this recipe. I cut the Bell Pepper into little rings, or circle, so it looks like “O”. Make sure you take out all of the seeds, and make sure you wash it very well. Hang them around the cage, or put them in a bowl together and let your bird paly with them! They love to use them as necklaces, munch on them, and hold them on their food. This is a great, healthy, and very fun toy for your cockatiel!
